"I don't count the feathers;
I just count the wings."
- Charley HarperBack when I was studying Graphic Design in Winnipeg, I was given a project which involved writing a report on an illustrator of our choice. I stumbled upon Charley Harper's work and immediately knew I had to write my report on him. He has since stole my heart (or at least the tiny part of my heart that belongs to design) and has become my favourite illustrator. His "minimal realism" style is simple but unforgettable. Sadly, he passed away in 2007 and now we are left with his legacy of beautiful illustrations.
Here are some of my favourites:
This one is hanging on my wall :) |

Two of the many illustrations he did for the Ford Times. Images found here. |
When I graduated with my Graphic Design diploma, my parents gifted me with the Charley Harper "An Illustrated Life" book. Its full of delicious Charley Harper imagery and I love the way it looks in my bookcase!
On the Christmas list this year? Another Charley Harper print to further my collection!
Then, two years later, I was given the 1958 edition of Betty Crocker's "Dinner for Two Cook Book", which is full of whimsical Charley Harper illustrations that accompany each recipe. I like to call it my Charley Harper gem.
